Looks like Roe V Wade is breathing its last breath before Alito gets in. No matter what happens with Roe v Wade, they still have to make provisions for the health of the mother, so they can't outlaw the actual procedure. What they CAN and WILL do is step up with the parental & spouse notificiation laws as well as the mandatory religious & medical counseling..and I'm betting they will legally protect the future Eric Robert Rudolphs, too. I look for provisions to allow thousands of silent prayer attendees to congregate outside the clinics from 2 feet away instead of 100, too. Ah-hem.
Peter,
What a sad day. Having Coretta Scott King die on the same day as Alito's confirmation is almost too much to take. Like you often say, it really shows "how far we've come and how much we've lost." I hope you don't mind me posting this Maya Angelou poem here as a remembrance for Coretta King.

Still I Rise
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
Nice one, here, Doc...
Earlier today it was announced that Ohio has another Republican stepping down over the Abramoff mess. They are falling like dominos and the Ohio media may run out of ink with all the press it's getting...unbelievable.
I heard a radio show the other day where some guy said this country is going back to the 40s or 50s with an upgraded twist. He cited the conformity of society using the internet with the same mentality that 50s teenagers hung out at soda shops..ah-hem. He went on to say that their will be another counter-culture explosion with young people speaking their minds!
Deja Vu, there Doc? History repeating itself? It seems to me there may be a 21st Century Woodstock & Monterey Pop coming, only this time CIAGRETTES will be the #1 drug the cops hassle for. My, how times have changed...haven't they??
Hang in there Doc! Remember there are a heap of us pulling for you. Do what you must to get well and forget about the rest of this troubled world for right now.
