You said if the Dems win the House and Senate, it won't make a difference. If they do win ( ha ha ) you can rest assure GRIDLOCK will be the word of the day for the remaining 2 years of the Prez's tenure. At least now, SOME bills are getting signed, even if they are the wrong bills. I sense the overenthusiasm of the Republicans are in part because they know the E-Voting machines are filly rigged and ready to go! It's very hard to convince people to vote next week under these circumstances. Further- I am not pleased with all of these "federal observers" being sent out to "watch" the process. These are the same guys that will hit the "delete" button after you and I leave the booth!
Doc, there was a story recently where a father and son walked up to VP Cheney and the father respectfully told Cheney he didn't like his policies. The Secret Service later arrested the guy and a judge then dismissed all charges. All the man did was speak his mind and then walk away with his son! Not sure if you saw this one...what a country, where you can be cuffed for speaking your mind to an elected official!
Makes me VERY afraid to attend the next Town Hall meeting in my neighborhood! I mean, while my car is parked outside, the cameras on top of the street lights are aimed right at the Civic building where these meetings happen. Betcha I'm already in Homeland Security system!! LOL
Dr. Pete,
Well said and you've covered it all. Now, Aaahh-Nuld... Green? Brown suits him better. Time to add him to selling used diapers on e-bay..............your editorial of Jan. 12, 2005
is still a great idea.....and an unforgettable one.
Now about that Military Commsions Act:
a. "The strictest law sometimes becomes the severest injustice"
b. "Rebellions against tyrants is obedience to god"
c."Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety will lose
both"
d. "I think a general Government necessary for us, and there is no form of Government but what may be a blessing to the people if well administered, and believe farther that this is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in Despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted to need despotic Government, being incapable of any other. "
Al Qaeda media campaign of "enemy combatants"?, " Americans supporting the enemy"?,.... so let's go get 'em and make 'em be the first ones to disappear?
NO..all quotes authored by BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
Dr. Pete, after they take his face off the U.S. currency, and purge his writings from the history books.....do you think they'll at least draw the line and let the kite and the key story stay?
Lauren
Well Dr. Pete, it sure is a good thing you didn't get started on Habeas Corpus in ChickenHawk, ChickenShit.
It's official; Congress killed it in September by passing the Military Commissions Act of 2006. Now THE PRESIDENT AND ALL HIS MEN get to define American Citizens of their choice as "ENEMY COMBATANTS". No oversight by Congress. Why the Military has it's name on a law affecting civilians is beyond my comprehension.
So picketing business's, peaceful demonstrations, writers questioning U.S. government policy can all be defined as "enemy combatants".
Now it would be bad enough to arrest people and charge them for any of the above, but now: NO HABEAS CORPUS + MR. PRESIDENT DECIDING WHO IS AMERICAN OR AN EMENY AMERICAN = DISAPPEARING AMERICAN CITIZENS.
Do you think American citizens are gonna start disappearing to beautiful tropical islands like Guantanamo and have a room with a view or are they gonna disappear right here on U.S. soil where there are plenty of empty places ready and waiting like Alcatraz, or there's always that old Spanish Fort from 1688 in St. Augustine, Florida with a view and all the tools of torture still sitting there.
Heil to the Chief, sorry, I meant to say Heil to The Emperor.
